Knowledge without boundaries – an international non-profit organization EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) has been living with this moto for over two decades. The organization speaks in support of open access to information at national and international levels, sharing knowledge and experience, cooperation and assistance among libraries. By the efforts of EIFL the library communities of the developing and transitional economies were granted either access to high quality information resources necessary for the development of science, research and studies, or favourable subscription prices. By participating in the activities of such international organisations as IFLA, WIPO and various initiatives related to open access to scientific information and intellectual property rights, EIFL significantly influences the decisions made on the issues of importance to libraries as well as their implementation.
The Lithuanian Research Library Consortium has been participating in the EIFL activities since 2001. During all these years of EIFL membership the LMBA libraries have received from EIFL weighty assistance and experience. EIFL is very supportive in negotiating the prices, encourages and promotes open access initiatives in Lithuania, initiates discussions on the intellectual property issues related to library activities, organises web seminars, invites the public libraries of Lithuania to take part in the EIFL programmes for public libraries and gives awards for innovative services.
On behalf of all LMBA members and our team we are sincerely congratulating EIFL on the anniversary of its activities and wishing many most contentful years, worthy and meaningful ideas and works for the benefit of libraries worldwide. We are happy and proud to be a part of the EIFL family!
